How can we help you?
Your desire for active participation in everyday life and to lead an independent lifestyle is our top priority. However, this goal sometimes cannot be reached with conventional socket prostheses and amputees are left immobile because of the many problems that can be related to the socket. The technique of a bone-anchored, transcutaneous (skin perforating) prosthesis known as Endo-Exo-Prosthesis, is a different approach to rehabilitation after amputation, and we have been using it for more than 10 years by now. The success of this comparatively new method is obvious. Frequently asked questions:
What do I have to do to find out if I am a suitable patient?
Gather information on this website and make an appointment with us to talk about your situation. If you want to, also fill out the online patient’s enquiry (see: contact), which will help us a lot during the first assessment.
When should this procedure be performed?
Every situation after amputation is unique and is evaluated like this as well. Usually an EEP is an option only after rehabilitation with conventional socket has failed.
Are there any adverse effects or risks?
Experience shows that most patients are very enthusiastic about the comfort and easy handling of the prosthesis. The required daily care of the stoma area, where the implant penetrates the skin, is comparable to dental hygiene and is not perceived to be a strain. It has to be pointed out, however, that there might be occasional irritations and painful soft tissue infections that need medical treatment. On these rare occasions we are your contact person and will take care of you at any time. Since the establishment of the EEP in 1999 we achieved to successfully finish a pilot study about this technique, which in turn led to a CE-certification (done by DEKRA) of this special implant. Finally, this method of treatment was implemented in the “operational and procedural item numbers – the system for international classifications of medical pro-cedures” (which gives international key-classifications and is controlled by the © InEK GmbH, the institute for emoluments in hospitals). Therefore, the charges for this technique are completely covered by health insurance and workers compensation/ accident prevention and insurance association. The Sana Clinics in Lübeck are exclusively accredited for this NUB (“new examination and treatment method”).
